The Heretic Queen is by Michelle Moran.
The main female lead of this book is Nefertari (who is the niece of Nefertiti, daughter of Nefertiti's sister Mutnodjmet and General Nakhtmin, granddaughter of Tey and Ay who took over after Nefertiti was killed and Tutankhmun died).
In this book Seti I is ruling over Egypt with his queen Tuya. After tradiy strikes and kills off Mutnodjmet remaining family and that includes Pharoh Ay and his queen Tey. Mutnodjmet is forced to marry Horemheb and he takes the throne, but Mutnodjmet gives birth to a girl, Nefertari, and Hormheb is left without any heir and gives the throne to his trusted general Ramesses I which leads to Ramsesses II rule.
Nefertari marries Ramsesses II and becomes his Chief Wife and she has to work to get that position. All the while she is ruling by Ramsesses side she learns what has caused her family to be piratically erased from history - outside of the fact that her family were declared heritics. She finds out that there was a more sinister plot to the fire that took her family.
She must persevere through so much and come out on top or else lose her place in history forever. Which she does. And in the end the truth comes out and with every wrong that was made - that went against Ma'at - was righted.
Read this book. Honestly I love how Moran bridged Nefertiti to Nefertari. It is so well done. This book just like Nefertiti is a work of fiction that stick true to the facts that are known.
